Default Egr voltage, wiring short?

Hey everyone, I am having some issues with my 2001 Monte Carlo ss 3.8. Have two cel codes, p0404 and p1404. I was diagnosing the egr valve and found that wire E only had around 1.5v and should have 12v. I decided to put it back together for now, only to find out my battery was now drained. Put it on the charger overnight, didn't take the charge. The speakers are buzzing and after about 20 seconds they make a little pop noise. Before that the CD player sounded like it was trying to eject a cd continuously. This was all happening with no key in the ignition. I am not sure where to start looking, but I am guessing there is a short somewhere. Any ideas for me? Appreciate any help. Thanks, Kevin.
