Default Drivers side power window switch

I'm having an issue where the drivers side power window switch will quit working, when it quits working I won't be able to raise or lower either the drivers side or passenger windows, however the passenger side switch will still work to lower or raise the passenger side window.
I usually notice it has quit working when I first get it in it, but it has stopped working once while I had already been driving for a few minutes.
I removed the door panel to see if I could see any visual problems and I knew I would need to remove the panel any way to replace the switch. I can't see any visible problems and can't relate any activities to why it stops working or why it just as suddenly starts to work again. It may work for a week or more and then just quit again.

After looking around these pages I see that if I do replace the switch, I should only replace it with the OEM version, since they are fairly pricey my question is:

How likely is this a bad drivers side switch?

Also I guess the passenger side switch won't work if the drivers side switch is not installed?

check wiring where it goes from the door to the intereior. lots of times the wires will break from opening and closing the door.

Couldn't really see much because of the protection over the wires and didn't really want to mess with it because I wasn't sure how to remove the rubber protective cover without damaging it.

But it has been pretty good now for over a week, I guess I'll just put the door panel back on and hope it stays good for now.
