i just don't know what it is - i do know that it isn't because i'm holding the key though. i just tap the key and it does that - like it turns over a little longer than usual every 4th or 5th time I start my car, it isn't consistent at all but I appreciate all the advice everyone!

or cars are also desinged to switch cilinders if the first one dosent start the car... this is normal and will sound like the car is half started and almost stalling... very hard to explain but its normal... wish i could explain better.

Kind of strange, but I think it is normal. It is not double starting, but auto starting until the thing cranks over. My car does it too on occasion.

yeah, i work at a gm dealership up here in Canada.. i overherd this same conversation with a service writer and a customer... then the service writer started the car, got the same results we're talking about and explained to them that the first cylinder isnt starting the car fast enuf... so it switches to a 2nd one... thus producing the same symptoms that sounded like the car was half started and almost stalling.
