Disabling daytime running lights

I have an 02 ls. I went to hobby lobby and bought a sheet of self adhesive black felt paper. cut out a small piece just big enough to cover the light sensor on top of the dash. car now thinks it is night time all the time. use the light switch and pull out to the parking light setting and drl will be off and parks and tails will be on.you need to pull switch out after you shift into gear for some reason. the black felt paper is hardly noticable and cost a dollar a sheet. you just need to get used to pulling the switch out like the older cars.

Are there any side effects from covering the light sensor? What about in the daytime? I want mine OFF!
i cant have any lights on unless i turn them on. this is because if they are on with drls then it voids the hid ballast warrantys. covering the sensor just will keep them on at full power all day long. the drls are jsut your headlamps at a lower power when the sensor has light hitting it. soo if it is covered then it will jsut always be on.....atleast in myne its like that.
that is one way but then before you get out of the car you have to switch it back to auto and i can prove that i switch them off when i do drive to the hid ballast producer for the warrenty if necessary.

At least that's what I do right now. I'm interested in figuring out how to run just the marker lights as that's what my halo's are wired into as my drls, that'd save the bulbs plus look better.
the halos should be coming over winter
but one problem is that i have the hid still and they are h11 and since we discussed the halo lights are not. but i could melt the connectors out mayby and place the stock ones in the halo and use plastice repair(good stuff from the shop i work at) but thats alot of work.

I have heard that 06-07 switch is different and will need the harness to disable drl. on my 02 I just have to remember to pull switch out to first detent and headlights will be off and parking lights on which looks cooler anyway.
