Default Different Kind Of Oil Life Question

I already know how to reset it. My dad just picked up a 2002 Monte Carlo LS with no owner's manual. I've played with the radio and read on here how to reset the oil life monitor. I was wondering if it was possible to read the current percentage of oil life remaining without waiting for the "change oil soon" message to appear. My apologies if this has already been answered, but I tried to search "oil life" and it tells me "oil" is too short of a word.

You won't be able to see the percentage in the 6th gens. The 7th gens you can but 6 gens just had the light

Aw that sucks, but thanks anyway for the quick reply! At least now I know. I thought you could check it on my in-laws 2003 Chevy Venture minivan, but I may even be wrong about that.
