Okay so my mom picked up a dark blue 01 monte carlo ss with 33k for 5grand.No rust other than one spot by the sunroof(not sure how haha) underneith is clean, loaded with every option other than high sport, with new cooper tires. has need a few little things like hazard switch an a taillight whichi had layin around but now its sysing low coolant an weve had the elbows replaced an the senser but still has the light on an its smelling like coolant.the car is not cooling down very fast at all,it was going to be pressure tested today.only thing i can think of is the intake manifold has a problem? my buddys regal over headed last spring an he had warped his intake manifold so im thinking it could be the starting of my moms, any help or input is welcome as the mechanic said this is a $700 job an im thinking i might be able to do it myself an save my mother the money

Like chibi said check the actual coolant level first and monitor that. Also how is the temp gauge. does it jump around a lot. If it seems like there is always air in the system and the level is fluctuating you have a problem.
The LIM isn't too hard of job if you want to tackle it. GM makes a tool for removing the pushrods.
