coolant boling

bad rad cap . if it doesn't hold pressure ur coolant will boil much sooner. i'd change the stat anyway. replace it with a super stat. or one made of stainless stell and that will only fail open. atleast then all u get is a po128 code wen it goes instead of potentially overheating

FYI - Trans fluid with filter should be changed at recommended intervals. In my location, since I travel on 99% flat land and not in constant extreme heat my change interval is 100,000 miles or less. Just this spring, I changed the trans fluid/filter on my '94 Grand Am for it's second time. Has 210,000+ on it now and engine/trans works like new.
Most people claiming you NEVER change trans fluid and state they've destroyed transmissions by doing that probably did not do it at the proper internal based on there driving location.
As for the coolant boiling, the question is, was it boiling OR was it a matter of air escaping through a faulty radiator cap?
