Computer issue
Is all the computer hardware the same on all GM cars physically? And is it just the programming that is different for each car. For example can a computer from an '07 Corvette with an LS7 be the same as our Wbody's with the LS4 but just have different programming to run all the motor and transmission functions? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks

Some are physically interchangeable between certain model cars, but they are not all identical for every GM model in any way.
Your best bet is to find the part number for your pcm and use that as a cross reference to what other cars use the same pcm.

hehe... like biggriggs said... no!
those are totally different ecms... our ls4 cars have an E40 ecm... and the 07 vette uses an e38 ecm...
totally different hardware and programming tables/scalars... you can't use it...
so, why are you asking about this anyway???

it cant really because the ls4 is the 393 gm engine the ls7 is i think a bigger engine and needs more things from the computer to run right. i would go and take a look at some computers for the ls4 engine and try to see what the programing is also the ls4 you have is set up for a four speed. i would becarfull do to the different set ups for different vehicles.

Thank you for all the valuable advise. I asked this because I now have an LS7 in my car and I have the original LS4 computer. We are trying to re - program it with the HP tuner and are running into some issues with fuel and air, concentration measurements, calculations, flow etc. I thought if the computers were similar in nature such as physically and had the same hook up but maybe had expanded programing that the HP tuner could tap into - we would have less difficulty tuning the car. But what I found out as was brought to my attention they are not interchangeable. Thanks.
