Default Cleaning Engine

I have my engine torn down right now while I'm waiting for my UIM and LIM gaskets to ship. Meanwhile, I'd like to clean out the big block of my engine, as it has what I assume is dirt, oil, and coolant mixed to make a disgusting black paste. Anyone have any suggestions on a cleaner to use on it?

Can you be more specific about the part you're trying to clean - the inside of your engine or the outside? The exterior will be relatively easy - bristle brush and some engine degreaser. Just make sure you block off the open parts of your engine so you're not blowing grease and grit inside it.

This is what I'm working with.

Brake clean works well or you can let it soak with some degreaser then pressure wash it. after it dries blow it all out really good with an air hose.

I used carb cleaner. Scrubbed it real good, sprayed it with the hose, then dried it with a heat gun and a towel.. However, mine looked nothing like yours. Mine looked new compared to what you got there.. Ouch.

Dont know about using a hose either.. I did cause I had another LIM if I ruined it..

X2, soak it over night or even 2 in an aluminum safe degreaser for starters..

Well I used brake cleaner, a toothbrush, and a prssure washer, and it came out pretty good. Gonna clean my IAC out in the morning with more brake cleaner and another toothbrush since this turned out pretty well.
