I got a Magnaflow direct fit cat for about $90 when I had this issue. Recently it threw a P0420 code but I cleared it and the code has not come back. My 02 SS runs fine now.

Might as well get a ZZP 2.5" downpipe with a high-flow cat. Then it's just 4-bolts and swapping the oxygen sensor.

Any shop can put that on for you for pretty cheap if you ask.

Thanks man! Went to the link provided... Quick question.... I noticed one of the options for the down pipe had a cat built into it for an additional $75 or so... Will this work? Also, what exactly needs to be done with said o2 sensor? Dora's a new one need to replace the old one? Where is it located and lastly.. Would I be able to do this install myself? I don't own any welding equipment... Is it just a matter of unbolting the old downpipe and replacing it with the item above?

Yeah you should just need to choose option 1: 2.5" stainless bolt-in with cat.

It's 2 bolts on the rear exhaust manifold, and 2 bolts where the cat-back exhaust meets. They are doable depending on how rusty the bolts are. I couldn't budge mine and had to have a shop handle it.

The oxygen sensor should just unplug and go into the new downpipe.

This pipe will most likely throw the p0420 code, like most high-flow cats.

Here's a quote from ZZP

The downpipes we sell come with a high performance converter. It is OBD2 compliant but it is on the very edge of being so. The PO 420 code is set when the rear bank O2 sensor PCM thinks that the converter is not doing a good enough job. Because the stock cat is so thick and dense, it can still function when the tune is off or it gets old. An error in tuning, running too rich, having too cold of a Tstat, too cold of plugs, or an old primary O2 sensor can all affect the engine enough to set a code when using the cat. This code DOES NOT affect the way the car runs, it just sets an SES light. To fix it, you'll need that code removed from the PCM, or you can run our O2 emulator(not available for ALL vehicles), or you can clear the code and try to tune the car in better to allow the cat to operate more efficiently. This is a situation in which your cars stock sensor was not designed with your performance goals in mind. Please make your purchase with the understanding that over time, an SES light could be thrown due to the reasons stated above. This is not grounds for a warranty claim, as a repair or replace of the cat/downpipe would not permanently fix the code

Yet another question... Did you find the purchase of the larger downpipe worth it? I saw they mentioned possibly 15 to 20 extra HP... That seems like a big claim considering we are only talking about a half inch no? I'm assuming a high flow cat will increase performance as opposed to a "stock" cat right? Would this be a good time to replace that o2 sensor or do they generally don't fail? Finally, I'm assuming there are gaskets that connect both ends right? Wondering if that company provides em? You mentioned that code it may throw... That would be the check engine light correct? It shouldn't effect performance but I may just take you up on that offer if you could clear it. I'm gonna try to google a complete layout of the exhaust system so that I can be more familiar with what I'm looking at... Like I said, planing on getting a Cat Back system after I deal with this issue... Any suggestions? I just want to thank you for all your help... This board has saved me more then I can say. Btw, that's one bad *** Camaro you got there... Quicker then your Monte? Thanks bro... Chad
