01 Monte Carlo SS 3.8L. The car steers left just fine. It will steer to the right but only if you turn the wheel very gently. The moment you put normal pressure to the right the steering wheel itself pops but the car goes straight. Any ideas?

 

That's a very unusual problem and sounds pretty scary to drive. My best guess is a gear in the rack and pinion is damaged which would entail swapping it out. There's also a u joint at the bottom of the collum that I would check. Good luck
