Wow, I just read that whole thing.... wow just wow... Just like many others I feel very sympathetic 4 u. This kind of thing should never happen but unfortunately, it does. Good luck in this whole thing... But remember... insurance companies need to make money too (im not on their side).. So, get ready for a big long one huh

 

Insurance company has still not called the car repair shop.
Car repair shop feels confident they can get the cat converter fixed (blame it on the fire somehow) and get the transmission problem diagnostic charge covered. But, unless we can prove the transmission is bad due to the fire, we are going to responsible due to wear and tear.

All I know is....the transmission was fine before the fire. Then fire. Then replacement engine. Now, possible transmission problem. Not fair to me!

Anyway, someone mentioned the below problem. How does this get resolved? Did the entire transmission have to be rebuilt? I am trying to determine how this would be fixed/and the costs. THANKS!!

Can be done in the car the sub frame needs to be lowered on the drivers side and the side case cover needs to come off the solinoid is mounted to the valve body if you do it spend the 100 dollars and buy a pressure solinoid from ZZP different design than the delfi unit and wont fail!! Im about to do mine in my 01
look up the pressure solinoid thread and get the tsb#020730048 it will explain what is wrong

 

4-1-10 Update

Cat Converter replaced.

Transmission still banging, code shows Pressure Control Solenoid. I am now going to fight it out with the insurance company as I am going to state, "before the fire and repairs, I had NO PROBLEMS with the transmission".

I wish there was a way I could connect A to B here, but I guess its doubtful. During the install of the replacement engine, could something not have been connected properly, causing the Solenoid to fail? Is it actually the Solenoid or could it be the connection to/from? Obviously, I am showing my ignorance. Again, if I can show that all was well before, now fire/replacement engine and a bad solenoid, maybe I can get this paid for. It looks doubtful but I am going to try.

So far, nothing but problems out of this car since I purchased it. Engine caught fire, reason undetermined. Now a transmission problem? What gives? The shop quoted $850 to fix it.....as if I can afford that. Just venting.
I wouldnt mind fixing this, but I wonder, what is next??

cars are always going to have problems. its going to be tough to show that your trans was fine before the fire, but you gotta have some faith! theres no shame in trying

 

Car being looking at by a Transmission Expert today. When discussing the problem with the owner of the Shop over the phone, he does NOT think it is the Solenoid because it takes 15-20 minutes to heat up before banging,etc. He feels it could be something else, causing the code to read Pressure Control Solenoid. Not sure what else it could be, as I have all the symptoms. Let's hope its something less serious and CHEAPER!

The owner said he will check to ensure the fire didnt damage anything, resulting in this problem.

Just got the call..........transmission is shot. Something about the clutches inside or something like that. $2100 estimate. Whatever. It wasnt doing that before the fire but I guess its coincidence.

I give up. Engine catches fire. Transmission shot after not even reaching 90K even though it has had 2 fluid changes and has NEVER been beat on. Thousands of dollars already spent.

The wife wants it fixed. I want to find a way to "total" it / maybe make it catch fire again somehow.

The Solenoid tsb says they will not do it cold only after up to operating temp..
Did they tear it down?? if they can show you the Final drive clutch is cooked then I would believe it otherwise I would stand behind the Solenoid.. my .02

 

They did not tear open the transmission. They road tested it and said the clutches are bad and it needs to be rebuilt. They said this is a common problem with GM and that the transmissions dont last.

I called for another opinion (didnt bring the car - just a phone call) and this guy said that while it might seem like the pressure control solenoid, it is actually other internal damage and it needs to be rebuilt. This guy said that even though it only acts up after ten of fifteen minutes, its because after it runs through a few cycles, the problem starts.

Beats me........I am afraid to have the pressure control solenoid at $800 and then have to go and rebuilt the transmission at $2100.

I AM STILL PISSED THAT BEFORE THE FIRE, BEFORE THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT, NONE OF THIS WAS HAPPENING. HOW ODD DOES IT LOOK THAT AFTER THEY REPLACED THE ENGINE, MY TRANSMISSION IS SHOT. SOMETHING DURING THE INSTALL WENT WRONG, BUT I CANT PROVE ANYTHING.
