Best Place to Buy Parts?
Hello, I have a 3.4L 2001 Monte Carlo. I was looking to see what would be the best place to buy parts from on the internet. Both OEM and aftermarket parts would be awesome to know. Also, I was wondering if anyone has purchased a code reader and your experiences with them. I am looking at buying a OBD2 and ABS reader combo! Thanks for your replys!
I like rockauto.com when I order replacement parts online.
I bought a cheap (around $50) OBD2 code reader from Harbor Freight tools and love it. Someday I'd love to have one with more features like you're considering, when I have some extra cash.

I too use RockAuto.com (if I don't need the part today and can wait a couple of days). And you can usually search the Internet for a coupon code for RockAuto to knock a couple of bucks off your order.
I know Chibi tends to use Amazon.com for some of his parts shopping.

Body parts or engine/drive train stuff?
Best place I know of to buy parts for price and quality right now OEM wise is O'Reilly. I have a personal boycott going on with my local Auto Zone stores right now. But that's another rant and I'd stop at an Auto Zone anywhere else in the country.. not my favorite place, but still.
If you need motor oil and the like, Wal Mart is honestly the best place.
If you wnat performance parts, ZZPerformance - Go Fast... Not Broke | 3800 | Ecotec | Sonic/Cruze used to be the place to go for all things GM FWD. I'm guessing they still are.

Hard to get type parts check with Eric at Morad (216) 671-3736 or e-mail sales@MoradPartsCompany.com Its a (lack of better term) junkyard in Cleveland, does a lot of business on eBay. Primarily a FWD GM place.
Have worked with them on a couple of cars we had problem finding parts for at the dealership, very quick and very helpful!

I feel the same way. I have an AutoZone a minute from my house and I avoid it every chance I get. There are two other AutoZones in my county and I pass them going to the other parts stores (O'Riellys/Murrays and Advanced Auto). I avoid AutoZone for the following:- Poorly staffed store (in the time I get in my local store, pull an item from the shelf and get checked out, I could have driven to Advanced 15 minutes from home, got in and out and home before I'm done at AutoZone).
- Turn over of employees at AutoZone is so high, they lack a more "senior" (knowledgable) person. I know it's a store, not a shop, but it's good to have people who understand a little about what they sell.
- If I can't get the part off the shelf myself (such as something an employee has to go back and get), I WON'T DO IT. Odds are you'll make 5 trips back and forth for some reason vs one trip at a better store (given time waiting at AutoZone, that's horrible).
- Lack of supply. Common cars they lack common parts for 50% of the time.

Sorry for thread jacking.....
Thats crazy because I have lived in MN and now NV and I have always preferred Autozone to the rest. The one in MN had the same staff for years and the one out here has had the same and very knowledgeable staff since I moved here which was a year ago and have had really good luck with the parts quality as well. Both have really decent wait times as well. But obviously there are differences everywhere. Thanks for the replies. Some really good stuff on here.
I've also had very good service and prices from RockAuto.com and use them every time unless I need the part asap. Here in the MN twin cities we have Autozone, O'reilly, pepboys, napa etc. but they don't get much of my business. Especially O'reilly since their prices seemed to jump from the first day they swallowed up Checker Auto parts.
As far as code readers I have been happy with my Innova 3100e but it does NOT have abs but other models they make do. Costco had them for $89 dollars awhile back so I bought this model. I kind of wish I had spent more for the abs and live data capability though.
If you have any parts you need to order now you can search my posts and get a 5 percent discount code from RockAuto for online orders. I think it was valid until sometime in February.
