Default Auto Start/ Auto locks installation

So i work at Target and we had a $120 autostart/lock kit on clearance for $45 I figured I'd buy it and when I get the car running i'd put it in. I know i need a security bypass module, i found one at fleet farm for $20. Anyone know how tough these are to install? Would it be easier to bring it back and spend the cash on an OEM one?

OEM remote start accessory kits are available from GMonly for 2006-2007 Monte Carlo's. To use these kits your Monte must be equipped with RPO code AP8 (extended range receiver package). The biggest problem that I see in the shop with aftermarket remote start kits is the quality of the installation. It is important to solder all of the electricalconnections that are made when installing the kit. The GM Passlock security systems operate on very low voltage values so you cannot afford to have a poor connection due to wires that are just twisted together and taped.

Ok, yea any time i do electrical work like this i always solder, I'm training in PC tech/network tech so lots of experience. Thanks for the heads up. And yea I thought for that price I couldn't beat it, and if it doesn't work it isn't a whole lot of money out of my pocket.

Actually you can get away with the little clip on ones but soldering is best. Just watch out for the main harness falling out of the bypass box. Had an intermittant problem for 2 months before I finally resnapped it in.
