Default Annoying problems....Please help!

Hey guys. I hope all is well and everyone is ready for the holidays. I am having two annoying issues with my monte. She is a 2002 SS with just about 99,000 miles on her.

Problem number one:

I have posted about this before and maybe I can get some fresh ideas. My guages will sometimes reset while I am driving. The car will ding like you just started it and all the warning lights come on and go right back off. Sometimes it won't ding and just the battery and airbag lights come on and go right back off. Nothing else goes off or resets and the car keeps running just fine. There is no rhyme or reason to it. It happens totally randomly and has started to happen more frequently and is really getting on my nerves.

Problem number two:

My trunk leaks. When I bought the car there was water where the spare tire is and in the little pocket on the passenger side behind the wheel well. I had my back window resealed and that fixed the water getting into the little pocket but it did not fix the water getting into the spare tire area. I have put a new spoiler on and made sure it was sealed good and have also resealed the two brake lights. But water is still getting into the spare tire area. The weird thing is it doesn't get we everytime it rains. Sometimes there is nothing and sometimes there is a good 4 inches of water under my spare tire. The trunk weather stripping looks to be in good shape and so do the drain plugs in the spare tire area so I don't think it is coming from underneath. I am at a loss as to what to try next.

If anyone has any ideas that would be great. I want to get these problems fixed so I can hit 100,000 miles a happy camper lol

i dont have a permanent fix to the water in the trunk problem, but you say there is a plug in the trunk? if so i would remove that so your atleast letting the water out so it doesnt rust out the entire spare. that way you have yourself somewhat of a temporary fix.

I'm not exactly sure either, but the spoiler may still be the problem. They can be touchy. I know a few people that have had issues with the spoiler letting in water. In all cases, it still leaked after multiple times at the dealership to resolve the problem. It's usually more common with dealer-installed or aftermarket spoilers.

Your dash problem sounds like an ignition switch to me but would take some hard diagnostics and back probing I'm sure a tech 2 would show a trouble code in the bcm for communications problems to the IP.

I have the same problem with my dash resetting like that, not sure what it is. I have heard of others with the same problem as us though, doesn't seem like anything major. I'd like to hear if anyone has fixed it, though.

Thanks for the replys guys. I was kind of thinking ignition switch as well but I wasn't sure. The dealer won't do anything until they see the car do it with there own eyes. They don't seem to understand they would probably have to drive it for days. The water leak is driving me absolutely insane. I will check the spoiler again but I know I sealed that thing up good. We changed the spoiler and it leaked with the old and new spoiler. I don't know what to do with it. Maybe new weather stripping?

I would really like to know too! It drives me insane. Even though it isn't a major problem I am sick of it doing it.

Ok I think I might be on to something but I'm not sure. It might involve the key. I have a key and then there is a spare that my dad will sometimes use. We have been driving the car back and forth to baltimore a lot recently which is about an hour and a half drive one way. When the spare key is used the car will ALWAYS act up at least once on this trip. Usually it's twice. However when my key is used it very rarely acts up. When my key is used it can go through the drive without issue. So does anyone think I might be on to something? Or is it just coincidence. Also both keys appear to be original to the car.
