AIR FILTER INFO/WARNING
I picked up a replacement air filter for my 06 Monte Carlo at a national auto parts chain store Saturday. The owner's manual doesn't show a replacement until 50,000 miles, but I follow the old school of 1 year or 10,000 miles. The replacement was the same size and shape, but I could not get the airbox to close. The seal on the factory filter is a soft foam, but the replacement had a hard rubber seal.I finally gave up,afraid I would crack the airbox or break the clips, and put the old filter back in.I returned the new one and got a refund.I wound up going to my Chevrolet dealer for a AC Delco factory filter.($29 verses $17 for the one that didn't fit).I guess I paid retail.Darn.
PS. The one that did not fit begins with the letter "P"

Yeah, guys it's really difficult, but is easier if you loosen the intake tube. Basically the filter gives a really really good seal, it's just a bit tough to install. You have to get it hooked just right, or the clips won't hold, that or you'll bend one out of shape while doing it.
I bent one out of shape, it's rather scary, but if you look at it, it's nothing more than wire, and is real easy to fix and bend back into shape.
The trick is to look at the hooks at the bottom of the aibox lid thing first. Watch those closely, if they're both in place(which will require a lot of cussing, a flashlight if it's not mid-day, and a couple cigarette breaks, not to mention a ton of grunting and pushing and pulling) it clips like it was designed to work that way. The trick is to make sure at least one is on, then to push the whole assembly toward the engine, without unhooking the hooked side. This will compress the accordion style intake hose, but it was meant to do that. Then with it pushed toward the engine, you should be able to twist it just right, to get the other bottom hook in place. once both of those are in place, close the top and clip it.
Took me 15 minutes ofcontorting my arms and wrists etc.to get it to work, but it's worth it. I've probably saved 40$ in better gas mileage already, and I've only had the K&N for a month. Well, maybe not 40$, but 20 or so, and it only cost me 40$ so in another month it'll have paid for itself.

RE: AIR FILTER INFO/WARNING
I had this much problem the day I unknowingly removed the filter box cover. Then fought with it for 45 minutes calling it every cuss name I could think of before it gave up and saw things my way.
