Default '96 MC steering column dropped

Got into an accident with the car, front end hit a guard rail. The airbags deployed and the steering column dropped a few inches and moved into the dash a few inches.

Has anyone ever seen this?

Is it fixable?

Do I need to replace the column?

I hate to say it, but it sounds like the car is totalled. The column has tilt steering, but if that's not what you're talking about, 5th gen Monte's aren't worth enough anymore to have all of that fixed.

Oh yeah, I think it's done for. It's the father in law's car, and he is stumped by the steering column. I assume it does have tilt steering, but he said like the whole column just dropped and pushed in.. Could there be some force to do that, from the impact or airbag?

For the record I do agree with you lol.. But it's not my say in the overall scheme of things I guess. Motor and tranny are good so what's a little body damage is how he figures, lol.
