Default 95 Z34 High Idle and Stall

Hi, im new to this forum but i have been reading it for a long time, i have a 95 monte carlo z-34, white, its an awesome car however lately i have been havign nothing but trouble. Whats happening now is that the other day it stalled after i was stopped at a red light and went to accelarate, i started it up fine and continued driving, then a few days ago i went to start it and it was idle'ing really high (2500rpm) so i turned off the car and left it, i recently started it to move it out of the way of another car i was blocking and it drove fine, i have also noticed it kind of sounds like somethig relativly high pitched is winding up when i rev it up, might be related? Again its nice to meet you guys and hope someone can give me a hand! Thanks!!

It sounds like a bad intake gasket or a broke vaccuum hose.

Awesome, my freind thinks it might be the throttle positioning sensor, is that possible or no? I wanna start fixing it myself because im tired of untrustworthy mechanics so i'll try what you suggested first. Thanks alot for the help!

Usually a bad throttle postion sensor will result in a low idle condition. The high pitched whistle sound is usually an air leak. If you don't see a bad vaccuum hose or an obvious leak, take a can of carb cleaner and spray a little (engine running) around the throttle body, intake mounting, etc... if engine speed changes you found your leak.

This is an odd one, usually a vac leak will give you a lower than normal idle... I originally thought TPS as your friend did. To make sure, I would run your car to an AutoZone or a parts house that can check codes to tell for sure. I still would not rule out the vac leak..

hmmm ok, the wind up noise i was describing doesnt really sound like air, it sounds mechanical, like when your wheel is cranked all the way to one side and u hold it there and hear the power steering going, it sounds like that but it sounds like it speeds up and slows down with the idle

Have you checked your PS fluid? Even though you have not seen a check engine light the computer could still have trouble codes saved.

I have a Hypertech programmer that pops up two codes everytime I check for codes that never generate a Check Engine light. If you have a AutoZone in your area they do it for free..
