Default 86-305 issues

ok well since i had my 86 it has had two main problems. one which was my main concern was overheating. two was it would diesel after i shut it off. i looked in my Hanes book to get some kinda idea of where to start. it told me that it could be a clogged radiator n water pump, which reverts back to my main concern. also to check the timing and some other minor things. well the first thing i did was buy some REDLINE si-1. i figrued it was just carbon build up right. nope didnt work. this past weekend i replace the water pump, therm, lower rad hose, and rad wit cap. also fan clutch n belts i fig y not im right there. yet n still she diesels. now i check the timing it was advance. so i fix it to where it should be but now she runs very slugish and no pick me up and back fires, even cut off on me . so i advanced her back. like im out of ideas beside getting a new carb or rebuild. need help please if local cool i can meet up with you at my job.

I also have a feeling that its your timing. Check your dist also. I;ve seen weird things happen with they are bad also.

If your car still has the factory computer-controlled carb and distributor you need to unplug the EST module first, then set the base timing. Hopefully someone here can chime in on where it's located - I haven't messed with a carbed Monte in years.

well i just changed the plugs this sunday and well 4 out if 8 plugs i took out with my hand and the 2 of them where of a different brand (champ n autolite) after i put the right one in it seemed ok but still runs after shut off. im goin to rebuild the carb this week. one of my old school techs looked at it and said its running rich. the factory setting on the sticker says 0 @ 500 rpm. right now its set at 14 advanced.
