Default 3.9 Overheating Problem : (

On Saturday after I got my car back from the body shop to fix a rear bumper scrape I got from an 18 wheeler I drove t home no problem. At night driving home from my moms house my temp gauge started to creep up. 3/4 of the way up I started to freak out. But once I move the gauge will go down. So taking the long way home to avoid stop light I made it home.

Left the car home went to vacation and now I'm back to see what the problem is. There is definite coolant leak from some where. The radiator fan had some dripping. I filled it with some dex-cool I have left over to see if I can see the problem. Well I can't see any coolant leaking now but I don't have any hot A/C air. And when I have the A/C on I get a constant dripping of water. I'm taking about 2-3 drops at a time and also my engine sounds a little rougher. T-Stat / water pump??

Help!

Two great guesses and possible causes. I would really just start with those.

Well I'm getting some kind of grinding noise from the pump. I'm hoping is something like that and not something too major. It has 58K miles on my 06. I can't find my flashlight to see about a weep hole it has to check for fluid so I'm in the process of checking. My poor Monte

Make sure when you change the water pump you do a complete coolant flush, your dexcool could be gunking up and making things work overtime.

If it was me, I would replace both the water pump and t-stat, BOTH of those things are common issues with the 06/07 3.5/3.9L V6's...I've had to replace my water pump at 63K because it was leaking coolant...and my T-Stat I replaced at around 50K because the inner gasket got a hole in it somehow and was causing the T-Stat to stick...and definitely flush the Dex-Cool.

That should fix your problem!

IF that doesn't do it, then you may have bigger problems (head gasket)...but it really doesn't sound like that is your problem.

Well I drove it for a while and saw no leak and temp gauge normal. I only get when the the gar is actually going though. I cleaned the engine to see if any more is coming out but so far nothing. Although I'm dripping a lot of the condensation from the A/C. Not sure this is normal. I'll drive it some more to see if I get something.

Well I'm in the process of replacing the pump, t-stat and replacing the coolant. It's a pretty easy process but now I just need some info. Any one the torque specs for the bolts for the water pump??

torque specs:

Water pump mounting bolts - 89 in-lbs

anything else you need, I'll try my best to help.
