Just got a 2002 LS with 27000 miles. Is the extended warranty a necessity on this car or should I roll the dice. The dealer wants the GMPP bumper to bumper for 1400.00 the powertrain is 1200.00 He says most of the problems you will have are like window motors of fuel pumps, this I can take care of, the power train is what I'm concerned with. I'm a old hand on the smallblock 8 and the 4.3 v6. Nothing can kill them, hows this 3.4 and the trans. Thanks

The 3.4 and the 3.8 are both pretty solid, but the trans is going to be the weakest part of the drive train in both. If you keep it stock and keep your foot off of hard starts they should hold up for quite a while.

I never purchase extended warranties... Some people feel comfortable knowing that they are protected but $1400 is alot a money. I'd be willing to bet you won't use it during the warranty period.

 

I HAVE TO AGREE WITH MONTEJASS. I GOT MY 02 MONTE 3.4 AT THE FIRST OF AUGUST. TOOK A TRIP DOWN TO ROSWELL, NM TO SEE MOM AND GOT FANTASTIC MILEAGE. WORST TANK WAS 29.75 @ 80 BEST WAS 33.15 @ 65. I LIVE IN WYOMING AND IT'S A PRETTY HILLY TRIP DOWN THERE. OVERALL IF YOUR CAR WAS TAKEN CARE OF BEFORE YOU GOT IT YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE MANY PROBLEMS. MY FIRST CHANGES WERE TO A K&N AND MOBIL ONE. MOTOR HAPPY!!! RIVER RAT
