Question 2006 SS Oil usage

So I bought this 3 months ago, she has now 98000 Miles on it, she seems to use 1 quart every 1700 Miles.
I SAY ITS way too much, dealer thinks its OK for that Car. Tells me GM thinks its acceptable.

She runs fine,,, no smoke. But I am worried.... but warranty wont cover it unless she * blows* up or uses a LOT more.

We are planning on putting in a Tuner to help ( need input on that as well)

but I would like to have other 2006 Owners chime in... I do not hotrod my Car, anymore then others ( NO drag strips)
I know I seen a posting here about it but I can not find it

Thanks all

I don't own the V8, however, I've heard and read before that it's common for the DOD V8's to burn more oil that we would normally prefer to see. I'm guessing your engine is still healthy, it's just a normal thing with these V8's.

Yes, the DOD burns oil like crazy, not in all LS4's but the majority, including mine and my girlfriends. I have to add a quart or even sometimes 2 between oil changes.
You can get that DOD tuned out and it will stop burning oil

I thought I saw there was a bulletin about a replacement part to resolve that oil consumption issue (but I may be confusing it with something else).
06MistreSS (Matt) May have more info on the subject.

Can't wait to see how you feel about that tune

I use HPTuners. Many LS4 people go the route of Diablew Tunes.

YUP, IT EATS OIL.

Mine consumes antifreeze as well. I suspect head gasket, but so far, still runs fine.

I had the DOD tuned out. Runs better.

I have an Overkill tune. I have been pretty happy with for the past 2 1/2 years. I tuned DoD out shortly after I got the car to prevent mine from ever burning oil. Most all people that have had oil consumption problems tune it out and never see another issue.
