Default 2004 Supercharged 3800 service

GM Goodwrench is worthless when it comes to my wife's 2004 Supercharged SS.

She takes the thing to the dealer every 3K for an oil change and then they don't do anything else. Don't even look at the air filter or do any of the things listed in the maintenance schedule. I asked their service manager what the deal was, and he said we had to ask for them to do those things extra. Iassumed that since the car was under warranty and I was taking it to the authorized GM Goodwrench service guys, that they would know what to do and when. I guess I assumed too much from GM.

My wife said her car wouldn't start on cold mornings, so I checked the air filter. Look at the picture, they never changed her air filter and the car has 33K on it!

I looked at the maintenance schedule in the owner's manual and it looks like at 25K 4 things needed to happen. 1. Inspect fuel system for damage or leaks. 2. Inspect exhaust system for loose or damaged components. 3. Replace engine air cleaner filter. 4. Supercharger service.

The first three a trained baby seal could do, but does anyone know what the supercharger service is? , and if I could maybe do it myself since the GM Goodwrench guys are probably too busy worrying about losing their jobs instead of doing them.

I would find a different GM Goodwrench center and write the company. They take that stuff very seriously and may strip them of the name if it is a smaller shop.

As for the supercharger "service" you need to bring in 1 more baby seal. All you need to do is check to see if you need to add supercharger oil... Not change, just add. It is located on the front of the supercharger where the snout meets the housing.

Thanks for the advice. Would you ever really need to change the fluid at some point? What kind of oil is it?

I called GM customer care and they really don't care. Its like the deck of the titanic over there!

some people say you have to change that oil every 10-20k miles, and some say it will last the life of the car

as for the oil in it, i've heard 5w30 synthetic works good in it, and then just straight 30 weight in it too, i'm not sure, when my car hits 20k miles i'll have it checked and then figure out what goes in it

There is a special supercharger oil to use but I don't remember what it is as I'm right in the middle of changes right now. There isn't a filter to change and no drain plug... just a fill. I beleive if you take the snout off the supercharger you can drain it that way.

1. Personally I've seen my uncle's Buick GS with this engine, eat the supercharger one day for breakfast. Probably was low on oil.

2. I am pretty sure I've only made an *** out of the GM Goodwrench guy. When he saw the air filter I removed he said he was an *** and that I wasn't and he was sorry.

I dunno, but I paid the GM Goodwrench guy $140 to change the fluid they said was low and had an off odor.

Anyway I can check to make sure they changed it?

well dave, i know they eventually do eat the bearings, but guessing about the oil. as far as them changing it, oil in good condition looks like new oil. only way i could think to know is to add something to color it prior to the next time u feel like servicing it.
