Default 2004 Monte Carlo SS sticking Throttle Cable

Iíve just purchased a 2004 Monte Carlo SS, thereís been a couple issues with the throttle cable sticking. Happens randomly, going down a road and it wants to keep climbing RMP and speed even when my foots not on the accelerator. I was checking the throttle cable and thereís no damage or kinks of any kind to the cable itís self, but when it sticks it seems to hold it at around what would be 4,000 RMP in neutral. I can put the accelerator to the floor and back but when it goes back it sticks at thag 4000 mark again. Lubricating and working the end of the cable and the springs seems to clear up the issue short term (a couple days or weeks, depending) but it always seems to reoccur. Thereís plenty of tension in the spring so I think itís the cable but Iím not sure. Any suggestions?

This happened to me going down the highway.. Ended up going over 100mph and still accelerating..

Was the cruise control cable rotted/rusted preventing the throttle cable from going back to idle position...

No, I checked the cable and it was in perfect condition, I even disconnected it to see if it was the issue just in case there was something I couldn't see, the same thing happened. It's like it'll come back but gets stuck around 4,000. I can move it back by hand and if I work it around a bit with some oil, it works fine again for a bit.
