2000 Monte Carlo SS 3.8
Just last weekend I changed the evap vent valve solenoid on my 2006 Trailblazer. The code was the p0449. Easy repair, and the part was $25 at Autozone. If I can do it, it's an easy repair. That being said, I've never looked for the location of the same part on my Monte Carlo...
Those symptoms would be hard starting and rough running, but not the gas pump nozzle constantly shutting off. I have replaced it before, super easy 2 minute job, but not your problem if the pump keeps shutting off.
Video:
The valve under the hood is called the EVAP canister purge solenoid.

I didn't have any leak when my charcoal canister was bad. It didn't effect the way the car ran either. Just pump nozzle shutting off. I bought the car in that condition knowing the canister needed to be replaced before an emissions test. I replaced the vent valve before the canister, but the canister was the fix.

BTW....An ACDelco (OEM) canister is $93.79 and the vent valve is $14.45 at RockAuto.com. For the cost and minimal time involved I would replace the vent valve first. If it doesn't fix it you're only out $14.45 and have a new part that is known to fail fairly frequently. If it doesn't, replace the canister.
Good luck...
Please let us know how it goes.

I never had a leak. The bad canister kept causing the pump nozzle to shut off. That's what makes me think your problem is the vent valve.
When the canister goes bad charcoal pellets get displaced and can spill into the solenoids of the other valves and mess them up. You might have more than one problem. For another $28.79 and five minutes you could replace the purge solenoid too and have all the bases covered.

are they all canisters or is it just one canister? When I hear canister I think of the charcoal one I get confused.
