Default 03 monte

Hello I got a 03 monte , cat runs sweet
but trans shifts realy fast
And then falls on it's face

I tried keeping it in low gear but it shifts out to 2nd

What would cause it to shift so fast ?
Will be racing this car on a local dirt trackSo need it to build rpms not shift fast
I'd there away to make it just stay in 2nd gear?

Thank you in advance for any info

I have always wondered this as well. Cant keep it in 1st, itll shift to second. Cant keep it in 2nd, itll shift to 3rd. Lol I want to do a burnout bouncing off the rev limiter like some 1000+hp 2j drift god.. Haha thats just a joke but really wtf?

We need to know what rpm its shifting at first.

There's a different approach depending on if something is broken and its legitimately shifting too early or if its shifting at the stock rpm youre just looking to modify that.

Also RIP to that trans if you're serious about track racing it. They're not known to be particularly robust. Id at least consider adding a cooler.

I assume OP is talking about the stock behavior of the trans. You can put the selector in 1 or 2 but it still shifts at 6200. Well, I guess 5800 if its a stock PCM. I think thats stock shift points, correct?

I've read it a few times and I still can't tell if the issue is the stock shift points or if its shifting even lower than stock. Thats why I'd asked for the actual rpm its shifting at to better understand the question.

The reason I question it is: "what would cause it to shift so fast" and "it falls on its face after it shifts" (especially after saying it shifts out to second) which really makes it sound like its shifting abnormally low if its falling on its face that hard going into 2nd too. Theres also mention of wanting it to keep building rpm which makes it sound like there appears to be a lot of the rev range left.

I'm also curious if this is intended to be a 100% track car or if its mixed use. That would also help dictate the options if the issue is the stock shift points dont work.

Well heres something I remembered about my 02, maybe its the same for 03.. Keeping the lever in 1st or 2nd would cause the trans to shift at 5k at WOT. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, would all shift at 5000. But yea, op needs to clarify.
