I have an 03 ss and my car's instrument panel works when it wants to the panel dims at night so darkly that u can hardly barely read it that's how dark it is. During the day it is fine and the lights are bright and u can read them but as soon as u get into a dimly lit place they go out. You would think that it would be the reverse but hey what do i know i dont make these things lol. It's not the dimmer switch on the panel that works perfectly fine so i have not one clue to what it could be. Someone anyone help me out please.

 

There's a sensor that switches from Daylight Running Lamps to Headlights ON when the ambient light is low enough to trigger the sensor.

The DRL's brightness is pre-set.
When the Headlights come on ... when its dark enough ... try adjusting the brightness level by turning the light switch up some.

 

mine did this same thing i was told becuse get this in Germany the sun was brighter LMAO!!

This is what caused me to finally just change the lights int eh dash to LED's and also why i pu tthe speed hut over lays on the guages so i no longer have to care if this happens to mine.

But the one thing i learned after wards. was to check the ambiant light sensor but changing it out wiht a new one or a used one .

the bad part of this is the dealers know this happens in the 02 and the 03 montes but they dont fix it . or if they did it was change the light switch and the light sensor.

or go to Ebay and order the guage over lays from Speed hut. for liek less then 100. and you cna also go to speedhut.com and make your own to say or match what ever ya want and there are other companies that have them to.
