Default 00 SS A/C not working???

I have an 00 SS with quite a few miles on it. It still looks great and was a great car until this winter when everything went haywire. My A/C worked last year but now it will not work at all. It has refrigerant, but it is actually too full because the guage was in the red when i tried to put more in. However my air will not work at all. I have checked all the fuses, so i suspect something else is happeneing. Is there anything common with the HVAC unit that i may be able to look into. I really dont want to take my car to a shop cause it has 175K miles and i dont want to drop a bunch of cash on it when my transmission is starting to go anyway (i suspect pressure control selenoid)

with that many miles its possible its a compressor thats gone, the first thing i would have checked was to make sure the freon is good, but you said its full, so its not that...because that being low can cause it not to work.

It pisses me off cause the car is really still a nice car. Like the black leather seats arent even cracked. But now all these little things are going on the car. I have all but decided to just drive the thing until it dies.

from what I've heard, you may have some more time before that happens. The engines after reading a bit have an average lifespan of 250,000 miles. So you may have it for a while before larger things start to go wrong, and who knows, nothing else might happen, may be just a few smaller things.

my 96 has about 175k miles on it and all the little things are starting to go as well. i would def look at your compressor. mine died at 135k miles. but then you expect that in florida. its hot as a frying pan here.

well is there any way that i can test it myself

i dont take cars to the shop, i would rather learn to fix it myself and spend less money in the process than have some guy tear into it without a clue and charge me every step of the way

i only take m car to the mech if its too big a job or i get stuck. i watched my mech do it. it looks like a big pain mainly because of where it is. he put the car way up in the air to get to it and when he took it out its not supposed to spin freely because its an air compressor. think about it and you'll understand. mine spun like a gas powered top. that was years ago i don't remember what it cost.

Check the fuses and relays.
It might be something very, very simple to do!
