Default Stereo not behaving the same after battery was disconnected

First post here. Sorry if I originally put this in the wrong spot under the Repair Help section.

I recently took my 2000 Monte Carlo SS Pace Car to have a coolant sensor replaced. After getting my car back, I now have issues with my stereo. I confirmed that the battery had to be disconnected to get to the coolant sensor. The radio is all factory original including the amp and speakers.

Upon getting my car back, I turned on my stereo and it played normal for only about 30 seconds.

First it started to turn the volume all the way down to almost no sound and eventually it would turn itself back up but never to the normal full volume.
I called my mechanic and he said he thought it may be the Auto Volume feature needing to be shut off on the radio and the system would need to re-learn this programming.

The radio volume continues to go up and down sporadically on its own.
When I open the car door and before I even put in the key, I hear the left door speaker turn on and there is static. I understand this is to work the door chime and other alert notification sounds. However, the static is quite annoying as it has crackling sounds and popping noises. When I turn on the car and drive I still hear the static until I turn on the radio and play some music. The behavior of the stereo sound is exactly the same whether I play the radio, a cassette or a CD.

My mechanic said he was going to look into it for me but he has not returned any of my calls.

Anyone have any ideas? I see others on these forums have experienced similar behaviors like this. Is my amp most likely the issue? The car has low miles and in great shape but I also understand it is 25 years old now and things will be going bad. Just looking to see what is the first thing(s) to check.

Thanks again!

Maybe they hooked the battery up wrong after they had it out? However I did some research and found some possible fixes for you to look at.
Check this link and review the one that may fit. ??
