Steering Wheel Controls

Steering Wheel Controls
Simple question:
I just got my SS with steering wheel controls (i.e. Volume, Mute, and Seek.)
If I change my factory radio, will I lose those controls in the aftermarket radio?
I don't want to sound rude, but please none of the "maybe" or "you should lose them", cause that won't help me in my decision to keep the factory radio or to change it..
I would like someone that has hands on experience in this.
Thanks in advance for anyone's response

RE: Steering Wheel Controls
Yes, you must buy the harness for steering wheel controls (crutchfield link):

And to keep the door chimes and onstar you need

Hope this helps...

RE: Steering Wheel Controls
Well, it looks great, I just need to find a head unit that comes with a functioning wireless remote? I dunno why, but crutchfield recommends:
Installation Details for your 2004 Monte Carlo
Vehicle must have steering wheel controls. Your aftermarket receiver must also have a functioning wireless remote
Oh well, I dunno why, but it is a small price to pay

RE: Steering Wheel Controls
I just put in the Alpine iDA-X001 head unit in my 2002 Monte Carlo SS (high sport). Wellactually I had a place called Car Concepts in Salt Lake City, UT do it . They were able to keep my onstar functionality, door chimes, intergrate the steering wheel controls (I can control my iPod with it). It was expensive since I didn't do it my self, it cost an extra $350 for them to do this, but it works great and it keeps the integrity of the Monte. So $450 for the deck and $350 for the intergration of the stock controls and functionality. Remember though, once you take out the stock deck you can no longer customize things like how long your lights stay on after you exit the vehicle, and you can't change your alarm chirps.
