Mickey is right, they are full of cap. i went to a dealership by my house with your problem, and the guy kinda started laughing at me, he said they don't make a harness to relocate head units with the onstar because then any car would be able to have a onstar head unit, it may not work, but they would have it. it didn't make much sense to me so i went to Mach1 audio they said that "it is very hard to relocate your onstar head unit because if you don't wire it right with a harness that is already 'rare' and you start the car, the car for one won't start, and two will send out an alert as if it is being stolen." i told them what i suggested to you and with the peripheral and steering wheel control and they agreed it would be your best bet.

i have spent a lot of time trying to find this harness for you, but i feel that it is truely rare, and may not exist. sorry i can't help you further but i have done the most i can. mickey is right, i have installed a lot of systems like the one he has, its not hard, but it does take time. good luck!

Some peoples children!
Jiggly, After speaking with you on the phone, I hope I answered most all your ????'s about the remote mount.
I've done this twice now. Not sure I'd do it a third time, tho, as I tend to agree, it's a pain in the a__, but I'm happy with what I got, and where the system is headed, as it is still unfinished, It was setup for a MUCH more powerful system. This was a good start.
As I've said before, to do a remote mount and to get EVERYTHING to work right, you need a MINIMUM of 3 things: a remote mount harness for the factory deck, an Onstar module, and a steering wheel interface module.
I'm like you Jiggly, I wanted to keep ALL of the features of the factory deck, including security, lighting, FOB, etc. The only way to do this is with a remote mount. Check out my cardomain site for pics of the remote mount, or my photobucket account for some additional pics.

I would like to thank everyone for responding, this is a great community & I am sure glad I found these forums; you truly are looking out for the community’s best interest.

Also Rocking04SS is one hell of true gentlemen, Thanks for taking the time out to explain what is was I needed, you and I are identical when it comes to keeping Class-2 data Factory settings in tact.

All I was trying to do was keep my Class-2 data bus in tact, the only true way to do this is relocate the Radio, and some people may argue the fact you do not need to relocate the radio to accomplish this, How ever, on certain late model cars “GM†the Class -2 data Bus is a vital part of the communication system. And I did not want to interrupt the communication by substituting the system with after market software. Two items will how ever need after market hardware to maintain system communication One being the Onstar, the other is steering wheel controls, unfortunately my car has Onstar, and I am currently not a registered Onstar user and have no plans to purchase Onstar.

After talking to Rocking SS and two GM service Tech’s and a certified GM electrician I was told to relocate my Radio with a 70-2003T Data retention harness. I was actually on the phone with Rocking SS wile the GM electrician was telling me the exact same thing rocking was, it was like I was hearing it in stereo

I purchased the data retention harness, total cost of $30.00
I will post before and after photos of this entire custom creation and some progression photos as well.

PS: I linked my Signature to my custom Radio, I run this radio on all my game servers and website, and your all welcome to use it, simply click on my sig , then click the drop down arrow and chose your favorite radio station, now you can jam some music wile your surfing the web or reading my long drawn out post.

Now back to the Onstar and steering wheel controls, any good recommendations for a Good quality after market by pass?

All I know is that I've done this TWICE now, so that people saying "it can't be done" or "that cable isn't available anywhere", people need to be more informed. The "professionals" evidently arent that professional. Does that make me a professional? ABSOLUTELY NOT! BUT Jiggly bought this "unavailable" cable for $30 with no problems. It's nothing more than an extension cable for the radio. Relocating the factory deck is a piece of cake. It's the OTHER features that makes the install difficult! Like the Onstar module and the steering wheel interface module.
Here is a pic of the remote mount from my '01 SS LE:

Here is a couple of pics of my current install in my '04 Intimidator SS. You can see the XM and Sirius tuners stacked in the back on the fenderwell:

Here is trunk showing the ZZP strut bar, JL Audio 12", JL audio amp mounted to the back seat, boots covering the Pioneer 6x9's, the power inverter where the factory amp used to be, and the panel covering the electrical center:

My Pioneer 8800 deck with the Stewart Warner voltmeter and transmission temp gauges:

THATS how you do a remote mount install of a factory deck!

Wyane,
your right the prof. are not that pro. considering how many of them said it was not avalibel. I said that he needed this same cabel but knew it to be a pain in the **** to install due to the fact that you have to run it to the trunk.
As faras your installs go very nice and clean. glad tha tit has worked for you.

But i have never told you what you do or dont know about this or other topics. I would great appreciate tha tyou dont tell me what i do or dont know.

As faras his cabel gose im glad he found the one he needed. and again I HOPE that all works put well for him .

you told him how to do it your way and get the same results that he is after Congrats.
Im sorry for being out of cookies right now but next time i have some i will be happy to share .

when this started he said he was looking for a custom install. what you ahve is nice but to me it is not a install that i would do.

I have also heard of folks just relocating the stock head unit in to the dash behind the after market system. and they have thier trunk looking normal.

After i get my car back togeather i will set up a few shots for all to look at. I would have done this the other day to show what i was talking about but due to someone thinking my system was sounding better in thier car and not mine my car has damage done to it and looks like crap. therefore i can see posting photos of it.

HONESTLY, I don't think I will remote mount a factory deck again. Just too much BS.
And Mickey, I'm not implying that you are not good at what you do. I just knew for a FACT that this cable WAS available, AND I knew WHAT he was after, because I talked with Jiggly (Mike) on the phone. He seen my install on CarDomain and knew THAT was what he was looking for. IMO, this follows the KISS rule (keep it simple stupid), as this is Mike's 16 yr old son's car, and he wanted to keep ALL the factory functions usable AND easily available, and for a $30 cable, that's what he got. That's what I wanted.
And as far as my experience, I installed my 1st car stereo, an 8 track and 4 speakers, in my 1st car, a '64 Impala SS, back in 1969. Almost every car I've owned since has had an aftermarket stereo system of some kind or another. I've been doing this a LONG time. Am I a professional? NO. Are the 18 & 19 yr olds doing installs at Short Circuit City professionals? NO! Did I do the complete install on my Intimidator SS myself? NO! Dashworks in Portage, MI did the MAJAORITY of the work. I built the electricals rack, speakers, and did the remote mount. They spent the 2 days running the wires and getting the bugs out of the install. They are the ONLY installers in the area that I trust. Been there, done that! Things aren't as simple as they were as on my '64 SS, or my '61 F100, or......
I did the beefy install with the wimpy amp, because most everything came out of my '01 SS LE. I fully intend on doing a serious upgrade, but I ran out of ambition a year ago when I lost my son Josh last March 1, and LadyT's Solstice GXP has kinda taken over for a bit. "Lucy". We just got a page up for her on CarDomain. I just installed a Dejon CAI, intercooler and piping on her today. The Wester's Garage "hot tune" is happening this week. Taking her from 260 crank HP to 290 WHP. Check out the concealed radar/laser detecter and laser blocker. SWEET!

You CarDomain members, please give her a 5 star rating, and LadyT will repay the favor. Here is the link:

Sorry if I offended anyone. Not my intention. I just get irritated with young "professionals" that don't know what they are talking about, as in the Short Circuit City "professionals", as does Mike. His 1st question to me on the phone? How old are you?

first off i nice ride with the soltice.

I wis h i was still 19 years old LAMO!!
i remeber the 8 tracks and also remeber my first install was a 8track with the C.B. combo Wish i still had it now LOL .
Was not actually offended but was also defending the fact that i was not trying to steer him wrong on this. I would not do that and would be happy to explain it to any anyone.
But did not want him to go some place that would say YOU HAVE TO HAVE this and find out that he really didnt want it or need it.
AS for the cabel. I have to say i so glad that the prices have come down when i looked in to them they were over 100.00 but this was when they were first coming out fo rthis set up also.

Glad to see he has found what he was looking for .
