RDS vs non- RDS radio
Hey everybody. My current radio (non-RDS) in my 05 SS-SC, plays but is very weak. I tried swapping factory amps with no better result.
I assume the head unit should be replaced. Would it make a difference if I installed a radio that showed the RDS logo on the faceplate when my current radio does not?
Thanks in advance.

If you are keeping factory head units, you can swap a bunch of different ones. I am actually using MP3 unit offered in the Cavalier and Venture Van. But, an issue that you will have is needing to get it unlocked/programmed with a GM Tech II. Before doing all that, have you checked the fuse that powers the amp? Validated the amp is getting 12volts and proper ground? If not, I would start on that before swapping the radio.
I’ve checked fuses, but not the ground. I have swapped amps and gotten the same low volume result.
I am swapping the radio anyway due to the buttons on the current radio are mostly worn off.
Thanks for the input.

Update. I replaced the head unit with the same result, so I contacted a buddy with an 03 that had a perfectly working radio system. He let me connect his amp to my system. SUCCESS!! Turns out the replacement amp was bad also. I hit the U-Pull It and scored 3 working amps for 02-05’s and 1 for 00-01’s. Now I’m rocking my tunes and kept a stock dash and sound system.
