Easiest way would probably be to just get a new Headunit that is compatible with MP3

I don't really think you can put the 06/07 headunit in the 00-05 Monte's. They are flush to the trim on the dash, where as the 00-05 Monte's have the radio "behind" the dash trim. So I would assume the newer radios are a little deeper.

Switching out the dash is just WAY to much work and expense to be worth it for an MP3 adapter.

I am with Chibiblacksheep on this, just buy a new headunit if you really want an MP3 jack.

There is a guy in Jacksonville FL that's selling used Delco radios in which he's added a MP3/i-pod jack. He's selling them for about $150-$175 on e-bay (seller - gmradios). Not sure if your's is available or not. If not, maybe he could convert one. There's probably others out there doing the same thing. I just bought an AM/FM/CD (stock Delco) with the i-pod jack for $50 from someone else on ebay.

there's a company called Peripheral that makes a product called the iSimple, i'm getting one put in my car tomorrow. it plugs into the back of the factory head unit and lets you play any device with an audio out through the stereo. it also lets you control your ipod through the car's head unit and steering wheel buttons. I will update tomorrow on how well it works, but from what I hear it's an awesome solution for people that don't want to swap out the head unit and/or want to keep the car's regular controls.

That isimple is a sweet little device. That'd be the way to go if you have a compatible radio. Not cheap, but really cool how it integrates with the radio display. My 96 Lumina is not compatible, so I'll go the cheapo e-bay radio route. Hey, it wasn't that long ago that I traded up to AM/FM/CD in this car (It came with a cassette). I'm always 10 years or so behind the technological curve!

after having it installed, i can definitely say the isimple is the way to go if you dont want to swap out the factory head unit. works great, sounds AMAZING. worth every penny!

get the isimple gateway though, the digital connection is much better than the analog one on the cheaper model and so wires have to be cut so it can easily be removed if necessary
