Question bout Dash Gauges.
I have a question about my dash guages. I have recently put in an aftermarket Stereo due to the car not having one when i purchased it. My Speedometer and Gas Guage do not work but all the others do. They did not work prior to purchasing that car either, but when i installed the radio the speedometer and odometer move when a heavy bass song is playing. Any suggestions on how to fix this? The gas guage works when it is above a 1/4 of a tank but when it gets there or below it just stops at 1/4.
My car is a 95 Z34

that's very odd, clearly an electrcial problem, nobody would be able to tell you what to do with out physicaly being in the car, and unfortuantly electrcial system will require a certafied machanic, so money to be spent
i woudln't trust anyone i didn't know very well or with out being certafied.

sounds like you might need a power cap for your amp. The amp is most likely sucking all the power in your car. Your lights are probably dimming when the base is going too. Power caps usually start at about 100 bucks but they are well worth it.
a cap starting at 100$? hell you can get a 2.2 fared cap for 70$ and all the mountings and brackets to wire an entire system for that price. besides the point, that souns nothing like the problem, the gages are only working when the bass is hitting, meaning the gauges are some how wired up into the speaker wires, and as you know the louder, the higher the voltages, whitch aren't high enough to power a gauge alone, but when a large note is played more voltaged is pumped, this is the likly cause in one way shape or form, but to figuire out how or where, you'd need to take apart the entire dash, and gauge panel and inspect the entire harness. i'd start at the deck, as that's most likly where the mistake was made. but like i said before, you'd sitll be better off with a professional doing it, but with a bid of understand of electrical theroy, most clever people can figuire out a harness. only takes me couple of minitues to figuire out a system my self, but i'm quite clever
That doesnt sound right at all (not getting power due to it being taken from teh amp) If oyu say the gauges work when the bass hits at higher power. I dont know what the hell that could be from, but I can tell you didnt buy a wire harness and you just wired it how you thought it should be wired. Nothing wrong with that we all make mistakes when were first learning about the stuff. But untill you get to know exactly what you are doing, you need to do things the right way ie the slightly more expensive way. Go and buy the wire harness and that will fix the problem. Good luck
Also, theres a guy on here that should jump in and give you a good idea on what to do as far as fixing your gauges. If your having this problem, I wouldnt be using the stereo at all cause I would be afraid of starting a fire since there obviously some electrical problems going on when the music is being played. Just be careful, you dont wanna set your car on fire do you?
