Default Onstar Analog to Digital?

I just got an '03 Monte Carlo SS and it has the Onstar package. It doesn't work (can't call them) due to it being the old analog system and everything now is digital. I called Onstar to confirm all this and they said that any GM dealer can covert it over from analog to digital for me. I asked about cost and she said it should be about $14. That sounds too good to be true. I called my local Chevy dealer's service department and he said he's been there 3 years and has never heard of them doing this. He's checking with some others and calling me back. Anyone else ever had this done?

Some may say that Onstar isn't worth the cost. My dad's a GM retiree so I get it a little cheaper than some. I'm the kind of person that likes to have features work in a car. I feel like if it has Onstar, I want the Onstar to work.

It does have to be converted over if you want it to work. I never bothered OnStar when it did work originally (before they switch over the service), so I never bothered switching it over on the car. Keep it original!

Ummmm, okay JuniorCar. Assuming that is an actual picture of your Dale Jr. MC, it doesn't look like you took your own advice. It's looks great, don't get me wrong but it's certainly not "original". Changing Onstar from analog to digital doesn't seem like a big deal. Why have all the buttons on the mirror and the big box in the trunk and go "well, that all looks good but none of it works cause I wanted to keep my car "original"?

The original part theory is just an excuse really. But they do change the little antenna on the car.

That is my car. It was missing the OE decals when I got the car (except for the trunk decal which is still there). I actually still have all my OE parts except the exhaust and roof trim
