Default New System Questions

So I am planning to put a full system in my SS. When I got it a couple weeks ago nothing worked. Me and my dad ripped up the back carpet and went to where the factory wires were generally faulty and replaced some connections and the head-unit works with just the two front speakers. I was wondering if the amp would/should be still working along with the rear deck speakers? And if they aren't working how would I go about troubleshooting? For anyone wondering I am planning on putting new single din head-unit, all new JBL concert series speakers, hopefully running off the stock amp ( I have no idea how much power it puts out) with 2 10s and their own amp in the trunk.

Since youre planning to replace most everything anyways, why not pick up a basic 4 ch amp as well and just wire everything fresh (besides power/switched/ground to the radio anyways)?

Would save having to waste more time troubleshooting and you're already going to have it all pulled apart anyways.

Okay I might do that. I have no idea the problems with these cars I just kinda bought it blindly because my mechanic said it was sound. If the stock system components in the car are a hassle I might as well redo the whole thing. Just wanted to know if any of it was worth saving money on lol. Thank you for the reply!

Honestly its not ultra common, just not ultra rare either. If you'd have posted before buying about key problem areas to check, I'd bet no one would even mention it as a problematic area.

The other thing is your situation - some people ask about fixing issues with the stock setup but have little to nothing modified. So it makes more sense to put the effort into fixing the stock stuff as they're clearly not interested in making it better, they just want it functional again. In your case, you're almost the exact opposite as you'll have basically everything else replaced with good quality stuff, so it makes a bit more sense to take that last step and just switch the amp also. TBH the stock amp isn't anything special anyways as its just typical mass production car stuff; a nice afternarket unit will blow it away.

One tip that you may want to keep in mind all the programing for the Car on Chevrolet's goes thru the Radio. It would be good to not just cut those wires and save the stock radio if it is still with it.
