Talking New headunit = better speakers ?

So with my new head unit im looking to upgrade the speakers - nothing crazy loud or obnoxious just smoother and cleaner sound but loud is always good - I'm going to be going to an audio shop and kind of want a general idea of what im looking for ? Any recommendations i see a lot on crutchfield but am skeptical
Because i don't want them charging me a lot of labor to modify the brackets ect? Has anyone done anything with a kenwood head unit / upgraded speakers that theyd like to share / recommend? It doesnt have to be kenwood specific speakers just the headunit really

If you are staying stock but changing in better speakers for the back you need 6x9 speakers. For the front you need either 6.5 or 5.25.

I put in a Kenwood DP300/500 head unit and a inexpensive 4 channel Kenwood amp where the old amp is. It has a lot of flexibility. For speakers I did focal 6.5 in the doors. I put extinct 8 inchers in the rears. Nice, real sound without extra extra. The adviser said that it was best if I ran my own cables. After a year of resistance, I"m glad I did. I've got some 6.5 focals on ebone now. (Shameless plug but I don't mind sharing a good thing)

Yeah running your own wire is better when doing an aftermarket amp plus doing that will make you use bigger gauge wire as well.
