Default MP3 Capability

I was wondering what year Chevy added the MP3 capabilities? I have an '02, but would like to retain the stock look of the HU if possible. Just too much of a pain to change out the stock HU right now.

Mine didn't come with a CD player ('05 LT) so I added a Clarion 6 Disc CD Changer to the stock head unit with a control module that I mounted on the blank panel where the heated seat controls would be. I just tune the radio to FM 87.7 and I can listen to the CD changer without having to have had the stock configurations messed with or buy expensive add-on modules to make Onstar and steering wheel controls still work.

MP3 was not available when I bought my Monte (bought it new in April '05). As far as I understand, '06 brought MP3 to the Monte Carlo. I inquired the dealership about installing the Corvette HU which had MP3, but this would have been over a $600 job. I could have sprung for the MP3 changer, but funds were tight at the time. The shop where I had the work done offered a 100% value for trade-up. The full value of what I paid for my devices can be applied via trade-in to upgrade at any time. Not a bad option for just an extra $25.

Hey, thanks for the help. Leave it to Chevy to be behind the times. At least the rest of the car is worth it! Guess I may be looking into a CD changer like the one you have then.

Hey...no need to kick 'em while they're down, man!![&:]

But yeah...real easy and fuss-free install. The FM modulator control is pretty cool. Parts and labour came out to under $150.
