Default Mounting 6 and 1/2 speakers to doors of MC

I recently ordered some 6 and 1/2 Polk speakers from Crutchfield. They came with a plastic mounting bracket that was supposed to assist with the installation/mounting. I could not figure out how this bracket was supposed to be placed. I talked with their support team and they could not provide assistance. They had no other advice and felt the bracket was supposed to work. I went through all the steps with them, no success. The Polk speaker is round where as the stock speaker is square with rounded edges. I am wondering if anyone could provide me some advice on how to mount these aftermarket speakers. I am trying to attach the speaker to stock plastic housing that mounts to the door.

I have the Polk Audio db651's and I didn't need to use the mounting bracket that came with them. I just had to cut off the little tab that holds the factory speakers in place. The screw holes that hold the factory ones in place even matched up with the Polk ones.

That is the exact same speaker I ordered. Has anyone else tried to install standard 6 and 1/2 inch speakers into a 2007 Monte Carlo? I was unable to line up the speakers as gmcman101 stated. The ridge of the plastic mount would not allow me to get the speaker in a position. Is the 2007 different?

The removable plastic mount has a ridge that does not allow the speaker to slide into place. Neither the speaker or mounting bracket would allow a fit. My stock speaker is not completely round, but is square with round edges.

you can just use 3 screws or fab up a new mount. its worth it. i cant belive they use such cheap, thin, flimsy plastic to hold speakers. ugghhhh
