More Interior Changes Coming Up!

So, some of you may recall a recent thread I had about using factory pieces to two-tone my interior:
https://montecarloforum.com/forum/in...changes-28759/

On a recent trip to the junk yard, I found a 6th gen Monte (been picked over and stuff people didn't take was damaged). Well, it had the pewter/gray interior. I noticed two/4 pieces, not sure how well they will work, but I picked them up and figured, once I get the Monte back with it's new 7th gen spoiler, I can put these pieces in and see.

They are the pieces for the seat belts. One set is where the seat belt come up out of the rear trim, the other piece covers the metal bracket bolted to the car.

I oopsied and damaged the one bezel during removal at the junk yard. Luckily, only one tab broke. I don't think it will be overly critical. But, I am trying to re-form one with two part plastic epoxy (that stuff gets REAL hard). I first lightly scuffed the fins left from the tab (in hopes to improve adhesion). I made a small form by cutting up a cereal box, using Scotch Tape with the sticky side out, wrapped tightly, that's how it's held to the bezel. I mixed the two part epoxy and gooped it on. Tomorrow once it's properly cured, I can inspect for how well this idea will work.

UPDATE: Check posts #5 and #6 for pics of these IN the Monte!!

I think it will hold up. Can't wait to see it.

Great news! I checked my little repair job this morning and it looks GOOD! Used a razor blade to cut the Scotch tape and pull the cardboard form out (and I was able to pull the Scotch tape easily off the glued surface, something I hoped would happen, but NOT a requirement).

I wiggled the new epoxy tab and that sucker is like a ROCK! It's probably STRONGER then the original tab!! I took a grinding wheel on the Dremel and trimmed it a small bit. I think this will work PERFECTLY!

Now just to get my Monte back :)

OK, first, the BEFORE pics!! This should not be too uncommon a view for most of us. Many of us have seen this same interior before.

UPDATE - The After!

Now, I have installed the pewter seat belt pieces for the front seat belt.

Best of all, this was fairly inexpensive to do and I did NOT have to paint a thing (the plastic pieces have the color IN the plastic)!

I took this shot (with the headrest up) to try and give a look at EVERYTHING! You will see the new pewter pieces I just installed, PLUS, the pewter door pull and the two-tone pace car steering wheel.

Ok, now send me your old black ones.......:D

The_Maniac 07-31-2011 04:19 PM

I hate to sound like a stick in the mud, but I'm stashing the black pieces for now. I am still keeping eyes open for more Montes at the scrap yard. If I can find those pieces in black, they will be yours!!
