Default How big is the Alternator, and how much amperage does the car draw?

Hi,

I am pretty new here, and have an information request about the 7th generation Monte Carlo SS. Background is that I am looking to buy one, and I am hoping to install a good stereo in it that has some volume.

I will be using a PPI PC 4400 and PC 2600, or a PPI 5440. The PC 4400 (4X50 W of very clean power) and the PC 2600 ( 2X 300W, also very clean) will drive 4 regular speakers in the doors and rear deck, and the PC2600 would drive a pair of subs. I think this setup would draw on the order of 40A fairly steady, with peaks in the 80A range. The PC 5440 has 4X50W plus 1X 200W. This would draw somewhat less power, as in 30-35 A steady, probably around 60-70 A peak. It would drive the same speakers, but only one sub.

I would like to know if I should be looking for a larger alternator or if the factory one has enough capacity to run the car and the stereo setup without issue. I have tried to find the specs on the alternator for this car, and haven't had a lot of success.

Factory alt has 135amps, it should work. When I did my system, put 2 AGM batteries in mine and took care of the headlight surging. Running two amps (4channel,mono) and dual 10's without any problems on oem alt.

Hi Gus, The original Alt has lots of Juice.
I have 6 Pioneer 5100T Amps, (One amp on each speaker).
Hertz MLE's doors. Pioneer 4-way rear deck and 2x15" Kicker CVR's.
Big 3 power wire. Optima Red top Battery. 1F + 2F Caps.
