I am looking to replace the stock radio in my 04 SS with an aftermarket. I'm looking at a BOSS or a Kenwood Double Din but was told by someone that the slot for the Monte's radio was actually a 1.5 Din not a Double Din. Can anyone shed any light on that?

Also, what cable kits would I need to retain my car's OnStar, Steering Controls, and Safety Functions?

 

Note: I have replaced Single din radios with no problem, and I have installed Double Din to Single din conversion kits, but I really want to install the Double Din radio as to not mar the face of the dash with a giant hole/bin under my receiver.

 

Replacing the radios in this isn't all that hard. The wiring kit your looking for is here (link). It's a bit pricey, but if you also order your HU from Crutchfield, they will cut the price of it in half.

I did a ton of research finding a good HU for my car about 6 months back, what I ended up settling on was the Pioneer P2300DVD (link here) and I haven't looked back. It's a great radio. I'm sure some others will give some input for you as well, good luck on your decision and install!

Thanks for all the help everyone. Is the Monte Carlo radio easy to swap out? I know in my Ford I had a LONG time ago you had to use the special tool then take half the damn dash apart just to change the HU.

 

It's a double din, but there is a plastic bracket behind the radio that will probably need to be dremmeled down in order for the radio and wiring to fit, the aftermarket radios are usually longer than stock, so this is needed.
