Carpet dye is easy and works well. I did mine with a bottle of Rit dye (walmart, $2) and a spray bottle full of warm water. Just mix it to desired shade and spray away. Do it outside on a warm day and let it dry naturally. I did about 3 coats and the carpet went from gray to quite black. I like it. At first the black comes out purpleish, but it definitely dries black.

I'd never, ever spray paint carpet/headliner. Especially not when there's such a cheap way of doing it right.

You could find rit dye with laundry items like detergents, softeners, etc.

Yes, orange is an option.

FYI - To achieve the effect I got and wanted, I used a toothpick for a paint brush and took 3 coats to complete.
Some may have better skill then I, but that's what it took for me.
I agree, coordinated bowties to match the exteriors would have been nice detail if GM did it.

I didn't even think of a toothpick. lol Mines not perfect but I taped in and around the bowtie to achieve the effect.

1981 Monte Carlo Carpet Getting Sprayed

I would dye the carpet.. not spraypaint? it..

As for the map lights, just use a little flat head screw drive, it'll come out

That sounds about right, but you have to remember that's almost 1/4 of the car's value.. may not be worth it unless you have great plans for the car
