Default Extras needed for radios?

I went in to a stereo store today and was told that in order to install and use a new alpine radio w/ ipod player, i had to buy like three different things first. He totalled it up to about $100 BEFORE the radio. I have a 2001 Monte SS, if its relevant... Thanks guys, just trying to see if this guy is attempting to cheat me.

Pretty much everything you need is right there. The reason it costs alot is because of the steering wheel controls.

Are those the specific ones needed? And do the Grand Prix's work with the monte?

Im pretty sure, someone else would know mabye. Mabye get those things, then just get the wireing harness specifically for the monte at a local place.

You will need to buy a mounting kit for the deck, a specified wiring harness for your monte, and an antenna adapter. You DON'T necessarily need the kit for the steering wheel controls, it will save you $40+, but have no function with the controls at all. You will more than likely need wire connectors (around $5)

I got the mount kit, wiring harness, and the antenna adapter for my monte from a local audio dealer for only $40. Might be more because yours is newer but ask him what's included in the extra $100, i am kinda curious to know :P If things seem a lil overpriced, always look around the internet for better prices.

Yeah, i went back today to get my new Alpine S speakers (which are AMAZING) and asked him about it again. He told me that i would need the wire harness, mounting kit and antenna adapter, but he added it up to about 110. Then he said that for the steering wheel controls it would cost about 80 dollars more... Sooo i think im going somewhere else lol. Thanks!

When I got my stereo installed it cost $150 bucks to install it and parts. The guy who was installing it said, it's harder on GM's because of like these special brackets where the stereo goes, i don't remember exactally what he said, that was like over a year ago.

its the wiring harness that is where like 70% of the cost is. going anywhere else is not going to effect the price difference. depending on what you need it will cost from $50 to $100 for the harness. you are better off finding one yourself on ebay or something and then have them install it. i got the $100 harness for $50
