Default Comparable sub?

Well my 15" Kicker L5 bit the dust. Dont know why or how, but it won't hit at all anymore. I've tried everything and the sub just wont work. I'm still fairly new to the car world, and I luckily got this speaker cheap off a friend(was used for about a year and a half by an older guy so not pushed too hard). Now I'm in the market for a sub that will hit just about as hard as the kicker did. I'd prefer to have one sub for my 760watt Pioneer amp. My price range is about $180 or less. I just don't know enough about brands or what watt rating or ohm rating I'd need. Any help is appreciated.

is that amp really 380 watts RMS???

also, do you like the sound of a 15, i know they hit harder and play lower freqencies, but they miss notes.

JL,memphis,kicker,soundstream

"most subs take a s*** after a while, good brands just last a little longer"

make sure to match rms ratings, and 2 or 4 ohm depends on how many voice coils your sub has and how many channels your amp has.

your problem probably is that it is a 380 watt amp rms, it can do more damage by putting less watts into it then requested.

I would be will willing to buy a different amp for sure if thats the problem.

Is there that much a difference between a 12" and 15" sub? I like to listen to all kinds of music, loud. With that in mind would a 12" be better alone when the need to show off comes up?

well my suggestion would be an SPL comp 2800, mine lasted forever until i borrowed it out and the kid didnt charge his copacitor and just roasted the thing. but i had it in a previous car and i swear it shook my dash 2" up and down. you could light a lighter and it would blow it out from the front seat. if you listen to all different kinds of music i would recommend a couple of the 12" SPL comp 2800, it seems to play all frequensies instead of just the lower like the 15.

i have a type-r 10, i like it for rock and hiphop/bass, you could probably get along with that amp too, if u get the 4ohm, its 300rms, ive heard of people putting 1000 rms into it for excursions and it didnt do any damage.

Underpowering a sub doesn't hurt it. Unless you want to go bigger, there's nothing wrong with the amp you have.

Look for something that's rated around 350-400 watts RMS, you'll be able to use the sub to it's full potential this way instead of spending lots of money on a 1000 watt sub and only give it 380 watts. That'd be a waste.

Your amp does 380 watts bridged at 4 ohms, so look for a single sub with a single 4 ohm voice coil or 2 ohm DVC.

With just real quick looking to get you started, these would be ok choices.

I'm like this sub http://www.woofersetc.com/p2530/SWR1...-Subwoofer.htm a lot. Have you ever delt with this website before? The price seems a little low.

there is nothing wrong with under powering a system as long as you are not over drawing the amp, if you have a regulated amp (ex:jl/1000/1) if would not effect the amp at all what do you think is happening when you volume is low? the sub is being under powered....

The way i look at subs is 10" are great for rock, country and a little rap , 12"are a good all around sub for a person that listens to a little bit of everything / 15" or bigger are for rap / bass
