Smile Aftermarket Amp

Hey All....A friend of mine has a 2004 Monte Carlo SS...He wants to keep the stock factory head unit but put in an aftermarket amp....He already has changed the stock speakers to Infinity Kappa's but wants more volume. What adaptor does he need to remove the factory amp and install an aftermarket amp ?? His head unit is am/fm/xm with a single cd player. Thank You all for your help.

he'll need a line output converter, he can splice into the harness going into the amp in the trunk. this unit will be perfect.

or even a cheaper unit like this one

there are dozens of units that can do it, there are units that do each chanel, but i'd think this kind of unit would be ideal, one unit, no fus. just make sure you dont leave the stock amp pluged in, just splice it into the harness, you can keep the end on it. just strip it in the midle with out cutting it.

Thats interesting. He told me that he talked to a Chrutchfield advisoer and he said that the stock factory has to stay inline with whatever aftermarket amp he puts in.

Doesn't have to, but it would be best if he did in order to retain all factory functionality. I relocated mine to my glove box

Eviling's Right on this one man, that's how I have mine set up, I might be able to take a pic and post it tomorrow.

@04MonteLS how did you get two head unit's to work? I like the glove box idea can you explain it some more? Maybe some pics? lol

meh i still don't like them, i still say either get a full stage sound processing unit, or a new deck IMO, because even with line converters and bass processors you still just don't get everything, I recently played with some of this stuff. put a line converter onto a rear speaker out line, kept the rear speakers in, and than we added a bass processor, things got better but still meh. than he got a new deck and that + the bass processor. BALM, you woudln't believe what it did. now this is sub, little dif with speakers might be less noticble, but you'll have better results with a new deck.
