Default 2007 avalanche stereo into Monte Carlo?

Ok. So I have the opportunity to get a touch GPS head unit out of a 2007 Chevrolet avalanche. But. I need to know if it will slide into my 2002 Monte Carlo? I know I need adapters and maybe a little cutting. But will it fit at all? And does anybody know if the avalanche head unit is a double din or not? Thank you.

Google is your friend, use him.

Yes it's double din, Yes it will fit, Yes you will need an adapter or some sort of interface cable connector, Yes you will need a mounting kit.

Here's what should be the diagram for an 07 avalanche stereo, you will need either the factory plug coming off the stereo itself or be able to pin wires directly from your 02 Monte's harness to the pins on the empty plug of the avalanche stereo.

Avalanche wires:
Car Radio Battery Constant 12v+ Wire: Orange
Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: N/A
Car Radio Ground Wire: Black/White
Car Radio Illumination Wire: Brown
Car Stereo Dimmer Wire: Gray
Car Stereo Antenna Trigger Wire: Dark Green
Car Stereo Amp Trigger Wire: N/A
Car Stereo Amplifier Location: Under the Center Console.
Car Audio Front Speakers Size: N/A
Car Audio Front Speakers Location: N/A
Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Tan
Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Gray
Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Light Green
Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Dark Green
Car Audio Rear Speakers Size: N/A
Car Audio Rear Speakers Location: N/A
Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Brown
Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Yellow
Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Dark Blue
Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Light Blue

Monte wires:
Radio Battery Constant 12v+ Wire: Orange
Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: Yellow
Radio Ground Wire: Black
Radio Illumination Wire: Gray
Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Tan
Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Gray
Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Light Green
Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Dark Green
Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Brown
Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Yellow
Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Dark Blue
Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Light Blue

Most are the same color as you can see, however you will need to determine the correct dimmer, illumination, and antenna trigger wires.

You will have a lot of custom work. You could get a clip of the old harness from the Avy and then buy a radio install harness and make a custom adapter harness to avoid cutting up your factory wiring (makes it harder to back out as well if you chopped up the factory wiring).

Another item you will probably need to over come.... You will probably also need to over come the theft protection on the Avy HU. Easiest way is if a GM Tech II can talk to it, but by the fact you are putting it in a car of a completely different generation, it's hard to say. I'm guessing it will be a trial and error situation....

Good luck and make sure to share what happens!

Honestly i dont think itll work, itll be more of a pain than its worth sence its a radio designed for the newer vehicles that you are trying to install into and older car, be better to buy an aftermarket one

Well it technically only needs three things to power on: 12v, grnd, accy to power on and speakers are cake. The GPS wont work unless he has the antenna. Would definitely be custom and very cool if done right. I could totally do this and would if I had the option to!

i think it needs more than that, in the newer cars the bcm communicates with the radio and if it doesnt have that bcm there it doesnt work. i cant even get one from another 06 monte and swap it in mine unless i have it reprogramed

well the only way to find out would be to bench test it and supply it with 12v. The switched accy is not normally usable on the car side when putting an aftermarket it, thats why they make such expensive harnesses to create a retained accessory power relay. In this case you would be hooking it up the same way as it came. I don't see any reason as to why it wouldn't work actually. Sure you wont be able to reset oil life, etc through it but it should definitely get power and you should absolutely be able to hook up the speaker outputs.
