Default Unbolt downpipe

I have stock exhaust on my 05 lt and I was thinking about in bolting the downpipe to see how it sounds and maybe leaving it unbolted if it sounds good. My question is if my car doesn't have back pressure will it hurt the engine in any way or will I lose power? I'm worried it will cut out or I'll blow a valve. Thanks for the help!

When I ran an open downpipe, it wasn't good. Super Loud, and Super Slow

Is there any other reason beside the loud noise... Like anything mechanically that could go wrong?

IF YOU DISCONNECT THE DOWN PIPE....

Youll eliminate any air/fuel mix control...from the computer....
Maf becomes useless...and O2 sensors as well...
Why in gods name would you want to do that?.....

Lemme guess:
Your trying to sabotage your vehicle?
Maybe mom and dad will then buy you a new one?
Cause you blew up this one?

Burnt valves and seats, seals will disintigrate....
Which fouls the plugs and eventually POOF....alll gone..

I wanna know:
why?
would you want to do such a thing? what do you hope to gain from it?
with any luck...KABOOM...and you wont have to drive it any longer....

How about u quit being a dick. This is why I'm asking others before doing! Quit judging me for what I don't know. I'm not a mechanic. I was hoping a KIND individual with mechanical knowledge would explain why or why not I should do this. Next time cut the mommy and daddy ****.

Anyway, back on topic...

To me there's no positive to unbolting the DP and running it like that. I was once curious as the what it'd be like for just a run around the block. But honestly, who wants to hear a v6 with open headers? Whether it hurts the engine or not, it's just kind of redundant. It'll sound bad, and saying goodbye to backpressure also means saying goodbye to low end torque.
If you have the means to do it easily in your driveway, by all means unbolt it and have a laugh. I can assure you that you'll bolt it back up by the end of the day though.

I ran open manifolds and at idle it sounded sick. I was already use to my car being loud so it wasnt anything new to me. I do advise you to ride with the windows down because you can smell the exhaust inside the car. You will definately turn heads but your low end power and acceleration will be greatly affected! Just unbolt it and see if you like how it sounds, if you dont like it just bolt it back up

Edit: I dont know much about valves and seals but I do know that my plugs have always been good...

Before you try and call the guy out, go ahead and unbolt the damn thing and give us your opinion. My guess is that you will hate it in terms of practicality. As I previously posted, it will be super loud, and super slow. If those are two traits in which you desire from your Monte, pull the exhaust and be satisfied.

For me, it was cool to unbolt it once and hear that awesome idle. But I only made it about 50 ft out of the driveway before I turned it around, pulled right back into the garage, and bolted it back up. Never again. If anything, it's a major disturbance, which can and will result in a citation in my area. Also tends to **** off any/all neighbors within two blocks.
