Default Replacing Exhaust from Cat to Muffler.

Hi to all,
I have recently purchased a used
03 Monte Carlo LS 3.4L v6 all black
She had the tranny rebuilt, all new rotors and pads,
couple tie rod ends, and bearings replaced.
Now the CAT is setting off some check engine codes
So as I was looking up underneath of her
I noticed the resonator and I already want it gone.
I don't know much about exhaust systems.
I want to remove it but I have read on here
that it does not produce the best sound with straight pipe.

So, what are your opinions? Would it be fine to run straight
pipe on the 3400 because its smaller then the 3800?
I read somethings about glasspacks and looked into those some.
Would those be worth investing in? I am looking for just
a little bit of a deeper and more pronounced purr. Not much and I might also want
to install an aftermarket air intake. If I combined that with a straight
pipe and possibly a thrush or some other performance muffler could
that provide a slightly deeper and louder tone?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you guys!
