Default Replace res, or entire system...

So I had a small rust hole in the res under the car and now its LOUD since its gotten bigger... To be honest I love the volume and deep sound of it (when hearing it inside), but its definitely not the sound im looking for since its coming outta the side of my car and sounds funny from outside. I'm looking now to eithr replace it or pipe it. The nuts holding everything on are rusted and I can't weeld so this is deff an outside job. I was thinking... when the shop repairs this, wont they have to take the entire exhaust off to be able to weld the pipe on? If they do, they might as well throw some flo40s or FloPros on there

They should be able to replace it, or just weld a straight pipe on there without taking the whole exhaust off. They will just cut out the old, and weld in the new...

Now if you like the sound, I would replace your mufflers if your looking for a new, louder sound. But you may still want a resonator, really depends on how loud you want it. Plus the resinator IMO makes the V6's have a better tons, and not sound so raspy. I just replaced my resonator with a smaller Magnaflow resonator, this made it a little louder than the stock res, plus added a different tone, but also kept the raspy sound out..

just called up for a quote. Straight pipe replacement = 70 bucks, new res = 110. Guy sounded like he knew what he was talking about, knew the size right off the top of his head and the prices too... I could buy the pipe myself for 20 bucks and have my friend weld it (not so neatly with his mig), but without a lift I think that it might not be worth my time

I say replace the res with a straight pipe. It helps to have that removed, but I do understand if you don't want it to be raspy (although I don't think it will be too raspy).

Not really higher tone...by raspy I mean that "4 cyl" ricey type sound, kinda a crackling type sound...with a resonator (not so much the stock one, but more so aftermarket res) you will have more of a throaty tone than the raspy tone...

I hope that makes sense to you...
